Material Handler – Seasonal Mission Goodwill provides quality, effective employment training and basic education to individuals experiencing significant barriers to economic opportunity. Because jobs change lives. Position Description: Unload donations from containers and move goods to appropriate production areas. Key Outcomes and Responsibilities Remove as much garbage from salable goods as possible. Sort donations into appropriate categories: house wares, miscellaneous, shoes, books, jewelry, toys, electrical, furniture and textiles. Provide a smooth flow of goods to the production floor. Use garbage and cardboard packers and identify problems. Keep Product Group Coordinator informed on status of the product line. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Internal/external customer service skills are essential for all job functions. Other duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications and Competencies: Education and Experience H.S./GED preferred. No experience required. Position Specific Competencies Ability to separate salvage from salable goods. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds. Ability to work in a team environment. Essential Job Functions Must be able to: lift, and carry for short distances, up to 35-100 lbs. Must be able to stand on concrete floor for up to 8 hours/day. Be able to work in a dusty environment. Must have well-developed fine motor control and the ability to grasp, handle, finger and manipulate small and large items. Must have full range of body motion with the ability to reach above head, stoop, bend, and squat. Must be able to: perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms, without pain or loss of function. Able to travel across a wide variety of surfaces including, but not limited to, ramps, stairs, and uneven terrain. Able to use a standard telephone and wireless audio communication system; sit or stand for moderately long periods of time, communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of people, including those with limited English skills. Must be able to maintain reliable attendance. Terms of Employment This is a full time non-exempt position. Criminal background check and drug test will be conducted on prospective employees.
